Six Years That Launched A Presidency

Updated: Nov 29, 2020

A visit to the President James K. Polk Historic Sight in Pineville NC provides tremendous insight into the times. While President Polk lived in NC for only the first six years of his life, this immersive program (available via online registration in advance) provides an hour or more of fascinating insights to the man, the way of life and his accomplishments as an American visionary. #jkpshs #livinghistory #mecklenburgparks #presidentialhistory #godblessamerica #optoutside #southernliving

The multidimensional program consists of an interpreter led tour of the buildings (access available exclusively for tours), grounds (also available for self-directed enjoyment with informative signage), as well as a welcome center offering the option of self led learning. Take in the beautifully produced documentary film about Polk’s Presidency, plus notice a charming selection of souvenirs located in the reception area.

The Polk site is located in Pineville, NC, just minutes off Interstate 485 Exit 65B (well marked by signage).

Don’t overlook the family gravesite just beyond the parking area. Polk’s forebears rest there.

Price of admission is $2.00 per person ($1.00 for Seniors). I challenge you to find a comparable experience anywhere.

Before getting back in the car, grab the opportunity to stretch your legs on the adjacent greenway path. And be sure to notice the impressive installation near the entrance/exit, historic in itself, placed by the Daughters of the American Revolution.
