Updated: Nov 30, 2020

Next stop: Cramerton! Return to the highway or better yet, take the short drive via Wilkinson Boulevard (its name changes to Franklin as you drive along). #cramerton #gogaston #gastoncounty #optoutside #catawbariver #floydandblackies #discgolf #hiking #ecosystem #ncpiedmont #bridgesofgastoncounty

Turning left off Wilkinson; you’re mere minutes from Cramerton, a lovely town of just over 4,000 residents and bursting with beauty. Follow the signs to Goat Island Greenway, along the Carolina Thread Trail. Goat Island Greenway is replete with trails leading to some of the most vibrant beauty of the Western Piedmont. The greenway provides two spurs at Goat Island location, both easy strolls with many interesting details, marked and unmarked.

There is a playground and picnicking available on site, along with a bridge across the South Fork River, taking the visitor to the heart of Cramerton. Just over that bridge is Floyd and Blackies, serving coffee, fabulous baked goods, ice cream and other quick bites for you to enjoy in the coffee shop, at Goat Island Park or on the road. And, bring a Frisbee. Disc golf is popular at the park. Kayaks are available for rent to visitors who wish to get up close and personal with the beauty of the place.

Fun Fact: Ask the proprietor to at Floyd and Blackie’s to tell the story of its founding, its name, and its connection to the Cramerton logo.

Let’s go!
